OK, now I am a bit worried! I am in the Pacific Northwest, have a tasmanian tree fern (approx. 1 foot tall trunk) that was nicely wrapped with chicken wire, straw etc.. this winter. When I uncovered it about one month ago, it looked good. It was a nice brown, had still some green on some of the few fronds I left tied up, and despite the record-breaking awful winter we had, it looked all snug and happy. So here we are a month later, and no new croizers yet! I know everything is a month behind this year, but I am a bit concerned. A neighbour has one too, and no croizers either. Am I just impatient, or is it doomed?! Help!!!!!!!

You're impatient. If nothing on the trunk or at the base is squooshy, it's just taking longer than usual to wake up.

Thanks! I did gently poke at it, in between the old remnants of cut off fronds, and it seems hard to me...meaning that my finger did not push into it. I shall wait and hope that soon, green shall pop up!
