tree/brush identification

    Opposite leaves . . . Viburnum of some sort?

    Right, the Corylus would have alternate leaves. Is there any fruit and does it seem native, wild ? Some Viburnums are native to the area.

    Looks more like Cornus sericea (aka Cornus stolonifera) to me - red-osier dogwood. Can see a bit of stem in one of the photographs (the other photograph doesn't bear as strong of a resemblance - absolutely sure these are the same plants?)
