Identification: tree 5 (pinus)

    Location:
    Tiruvannamalai, INDIA, but I travel a lot!
    Learning to recognise trees by their bark. These photos were taken in Yosemite National Park. I would appreciate help identifying them. Hopefully I have the right bark with it's corresponding leaf!

    These cones were lying around under the tree, I just presumed they came from this tree!

    The tree and the foliage (pics 1-3) are Pinus contorta subsp. murrayana.

    The cones are Pinus jeffreyi.

    These two species often occur together.

    Interesting the variation in the bark structure. Some of the trees that look quite different to me, are the same species. Not such an easy science to learn!

    Yep, bark is often very variable!
