Hi, A number of maples this year, largely sycamores (pseudoplatanus) are infected with leaf gall mite, presumably eriophyes ssp, which appear identical to the eriophyes tiliae that infect more or less commonly Tilia spp around here. In particular a young variegated selection I've just planted out now has these. I understand they don't do much harm, but they sure aren't pretty. Is there any treatment or cure? Thanks -E
looks just like this http://davesgarden.com/guides/bf/showimage/10585/ but on a sycamore leaf. Started out looking like rust spot. -E
Interesting. I find them somewhat interesting, and would almost enjoy having some on one or two maples just for the variety. Sort of like a variegation with texture. But its easy to understand why some folks would not want the infestation.
Thanks MD, that's the stuff. They don't bother me on the regular sycamore population. But for example I've just spotted some on Simon Louis Freres, and that really does bother me! -E
