I have brought back four pieces of wisteria from my Dad's house in Mississippi. Two are purple and very fragrant.(i think them to be japanese variety) and two are a white variety. They are shoots from runners that I dug up, about a foot long. I am in Omaha, which is considerably colder, and since it's now August, I'm wondering how to proceed. My fear is that if i set them out this late that the cold will kill them this winter.

    • Should I set them out now and take measures to protect them when winter comes, or take steps to preserve them somehow and wait until spring?
    • I would also like to grow at least one in a container. How big should that container be?
If someone doesn't know the answers but knows a site I might find my answers, it will be appreciated.
