I was staking a tall plant last night without gloves and woke this morning to a blisters on my face and a swollen eye. I am pretty sure it was the plant as I started feeling the numbness on my face before going to sleep. I heard about the giant hogweed but it does not resemble it. It is about 5' high now, grown from a bulb or existing root (new home so unsure of the gardens) and has round green buds but no flower yet.

Sounds like a Euphorbia. Hundreds, if not thousands, of species and cultivars, and quite a few in local cultivation. Would need a photo to confirm -- yours won't be this particular species, but you can read a number of horror stories here (most, if not all, will cause the same reaction): Euphorbia myrsinites

Thanks for leading me in the right direction. The plant that caused some nasty blisters and swelling on my skin is the Euphorbia Lathyris (Mole Plant).

Yeah, nasty plant! Wear gloves when pulling it out.
