Brand new plant, not doing well. I assume it is some type of palm, and if someone could identify that would be great. Okay, so the browning leaves...is it too much water, not enough water, not enough sun, too much sun? I don't want to loose a brand new plant, so any advice would be great. Thanks.

It looks like a Fishtail Palm (Caryota mitis).

They like bright indirect light, as direct hot sun can scorch the leaves which looks like might have happened to yours, or the soil was too dry. The soil should be on the moist side, not dry, not soggy.
You can cut off all the dry leaves since they won't go back to green again

I have one that IS growing in full sun, but it has been there nearly all its life. To put that in full sun would take time to slowly adjust to it. Yours does look like it is burnt, like Bluewing said...
