Hi there, I am reading Steve Solomon's Gardening West of the Cascades, and in it he claims that much of the soil west of the cascades is high in potassium and that, as vegetable gardeners, we should take certain precautions about adding even more to our vegetable gardens. I live in the Victoria area, and was wondering if anyone knows if that generalization applies here as well. An earlier soil test did not suggest a problem, but I bring amendments from off-site, and so am wondering if this is something I should watch out for. Anyone know?
I was warned by the crew at the elevators never to use a fertilizer with potassium in it when I was in Fort St. John, so it is possible. I think you did the right thing with the soil test. If you know what needs to be added, how can you go wrong?
