Tomato-Potato Plant

â€˜Ketchup and Friesâ€™ plant...produces both cherry tomatoes and potatoes on the same plant.

Developed by the horticultural company of Thompson & Morgan, this was first introduced last year to gardeners in Britain under the name TomTato, where it was a big hit.

The plants are created by first growing them separately. After a few weeks the tomatoes are cut off at the stem and matched up to the potato stems. They eventually fuse together to create a nutritional pathway.

Both foods remain just as they would on their own, the only difference being that they share a common energy source.

The "TomTato" is just a graft between two related plants, an idea that's been around a long time. This may be the first time such a grafted plant has been offered commercially, but there are lots of instructions about how to do it on the Web.
