I know that it isn't advisable to plant tomatoes in the same soil year after year because you can pass on diseases. I have a container garden, and a small budget, so I reuse my potting soil after amending it with compost and black earth. So far I have been separating my soil from my tomato and pepper plants from the rest of the soil and using it to plant lettuce etc. in.
My question is is this all worthless if I have composted the exhausted tomato plants? Does composting the plants pass on the diseases?
Question 2. I had spidermites on some houseplants. I took them outside where it was freezing and the spider mites all seem to be dead. Can I now add them to my compost, or are there eggs or something there?
I would have added this to the composting forum, but they won't let you add threads.
    Thanks for any help!
