tomato plant problem

    Rucker,

    I'm not sure as its hard to tell from the picture but the ground deos look very dry. Have you been watering them enough, they do need a daily drenching also from the size of them a regular feed with Tomato food something like Tomerite. Once they have fruited don't over do it though as some Red varieties of tomatoes tend to split.

    The only time I have had problems with mine where a plant has browned off and died is when a Vine Weavil or mealy bug of some sort has killed the root. I keep the ground as moist as possible in our hot summers we get these days and also feed regularly.

    You may want to dig up a plant that is on its way out and check the ground for any white slug type bugs about a cm long and fattish. Once you have them they can be a pain to get rid of. The garden centre will reccomend some sort od systemic that should kill them off without affecting the vines or making the fruit inedible.
