Hello all, My Tobiosho JM was planted last year and has its first showing of leaves since planting. My concern is that all leaves have a light green almost yellow color to them. In comparison, when I bought the tree, the leaves had a darker green color. This is a 4 year old (est) Tobi JM that I bought last year from a nursery (Portland Ave Nursery, Tacoma WA). I planted it late spring last year and it has mostly full sun on days it is not overcast. Last summer, the heat did scorch the leaf edges abit but there is not much I can do for shade on a previously clear-cut lot. The soil drains well but this area of Western WA State is notorious for lots and lots of round rocks hidden throughout the soil. I have 2 English Boxwoods nearby, both planted last year, whose new growth is this same light green. Could my soil composition be lacking in iron? A google search netted me with information about Iron Chlorosis caused by soil low in iron/high Ph resulting in yelloish leaves with green veins. I do not know the Ph status of my yard soil. A reaction to grass fertilizer? I fertilize the grass maybe 3 times a year; early sping, early summer, late fall. Just too much sun for a young tree? The nursery had a beautiful 15 year old Tobi JM in a large planter that was in full sun all day and looked great. Many thanks for this forum oportunity; I look forward to many more visits to gather great info. Fred
Many Japanese Maples have a "spring bloom" where the leaves emerge brightly colored and then turn green in late spring or summer. I wouldn't worry about it until the leaves mature. Dale B.
