I have question to identify plants at UBC botanical garden. I am sure some people have the same questions. Thank you in advance. 1. Next to the entrance, big tree, prepared to bloom or fater blooming, some berries on second pictures. I am thinking about some Rhus sp with such big pinnately compound leaves, fruit suspicious? 2.Wendy and me wonder what plant or grass with such nice distinguished leaves, in Asian garden 3.A violet flower in Alpine garden 4. Looks like some clover?
Eric La Fountaine answered #2: Senecio cannabifolius, accession number 33182-0262-1996. See Plant with alternate, hand-sized 3-lobed leaves
Possibly Meliosma for the first. I've grown the last myself but the name is evading me at the moment.
I was thinking about this tree as Meliosma, but we found Meliosma(maybe another sp.) with simple leaves in the same area, so I am confused, what this one is.
I would do usually googling and guessing, googling Meliosma brings up very little except a list of names, most of which have no pages. These plants are from garden, I am sure the staff knows names of plants in the garden(if I ask directly, I have usually answer), maybe some of them go to the forum.
Nadia is still looking for an ID for tree #1, so I'm attaching more photos. Leaflets increase in size toward the tip. It's right behind the Sorbus yuana near the garden entrance. She thinks Rhus, but didn't recognize the fruits. Could it be Rhus lancea?
3.A violet flower in Alpine garden I found that it is Dichelostemma Pink Diamond View attachment 103846 View attachment 103847
The tree is Meliosma veitchiorum. It has lost its label, so you would not have found that. I don't know what the white flowered plant is. Where is that?
