Hello, this plant grows in shade and plants are about a foot or so tall with green stems it forms a thick carpet of plants and the tiny yellow flowers have been blooming for at least three weeks now.The leaves are about four or five inches long.

I first noticed it on the property of a lawn I cut on the south shore of Deer Lake under some Back Locust, Horse Chestnut, Cedar and Big Leaf Maple Trees in heavy shade.

This picture was taken on Stormont on the side of the road near Burnaby Lake and the Brunette River just south of the railroad tracks.

Just wondering if this is a native or non native plant.

    Thanks

Possibly an Impatiens? Can you get a larger, closer pic?

Thanks Michael, don't think I need to take another picture because I'm 95% sure you're right. I could get another one though.

    Thanks again.

I didn't know this plant or these posts, but it didn't take me long to figure out these plants are Impatiens parviflora and to figure they must be invasive. There's lots of it along the east path of Byrne Creek Ravine Park near the Welcome board at the south end. I don't see it at this location on the E-flora BC map, which says that its appearance is infrequent in southwestern BC.

These would be undercollected (and therefore under-reported) in E-Flora BC, as few people are doing collections of plants these days. These have mostly spread (I believe) in the past few decades.
