Tiny Tendrils with Spines

    I saw this in Mission Trails Regional Park, San Diego County on 5/1/2017. I took a number of photos of the lizard shown in the second attachment. While examining the photos, I noticed these weird, tightly coiled shoots or tentrils sprouting from the surrounding ground. The first attachment shows a closeup of a couple of them, just above the right hind leg of the lizard. They are very tiny and covered with spines. Anybody have any idea what these could be?

    These are not shoots or tendrils, but seeds, - Erodium seeds.
