I have four good stand of pampas grass that I need to thin out and transplant. I have heard if you dig it up at the wrong time you will kill it. Also what it the best thing to use as fertilizer for this plant
Lift and replant ornamental grasses in spring. Base fertilization on soil test. Are you really growing pampas (Cortaderia) in Kansas or is it ravenna grasss (Saccharum ravennae)? Some clones of pampas are actually tender even here in Zone 8, I had three nice big dwarf pampas grass (Ivory Feathers = 'Pumila') freeze completely dead here in Island County because it got below 15 or 20F.
