In The Garden: Thorny Bush/Tree

    I live in South Florida. I am hoping you will be able to help me identify this tree/bush. It has thorns that are VERY painful when stepped on. Identifying it is important as both my daughter and myself stepped on its thorns and are still in much pain.

    The main thing is if you might now develop infections, see a doctor if this seems likely.

    Yes, Thank You. We have been keeping them clean with alcohol.

    I'm thinking that's bougainvillea. Even the chlorosis yellow on the leaves in one pic look like bougainvillea's veining.

    Check with your gardener or whoever prunes it for you.

    Bougainvillea for me, too. The thorns don't come out entirely when you step on it or grab it hard, which leaves painful and often infected wounds. I've had great luck using cabbage-leaf poultices to draw the last fragment of thorn out of the skin.
