Identification: This is growing and spreading in my border

    Can anyone id this fungi? Really interesting looking. Starts as an off-white ball. Opens up to show a gelatinous interior from which the orange lobes emerge. Has a bad odor - can smell them from across the yard.

    You have yourself a stinkhorn (thus the maliferous odor you noticed). Specifically, this one is some kind of latticed stinkhorn, possibly Clathrus ruber.
