Many Acer circinatum in a similar state in plantings here. Some A. rubrum have already turned and partly defoliated. These are moisture-loving trees, our summers are dry. And this year there was an extended spring dry spell.
Beautiful photos, Zonebreaker! My tiny aconitifolium is still green. Its largest branch broke off in a horrendous downpour in early summer, but rest of the plant looks very fit. Ron, the A. rubrums around here have not yet started to turn -- they sometimes do quite early, but this year we've had heavy rain for much of the summer, record-breaking amounts in some parts of the state, I've heard. I'm hoping for a long, lingering autumn, with killing frosts holding off until Halloween. Of course I wish for this every year, but sometimes it happens. Often we have to dodge a bullet sometime in late September when a hard frost hits most of the state but spares the narrow strip along the coast. If we can get past that, we can often make it through most of October before the grand autumn show comes to an end.
