I am posting this story to hopefully side-step sensationalistic reports such as we have had in past years.

Yes, the Giant Asian Hornet has been sighted again in our general area but, as this article confirms, the situation is under control and not a reason for panic.

First live 'murder hornet' sighted near U.S.-Canada border, say scientists

And another reason to be optimistic that we are all not at imminent risk of being stung to death is this:
Vancouver Island could be deemed murder hornet-free zone by September | Vancouver Sun

Really, there are only so many things a person can be worried about at any one time - aren't there?

On some « news » it says the Dept of Ag employees were attacked recently

This article from a more reputable news site (Link below) says they took part of the alder tree to WSU Extension in Bellingham WA

AND - Scroll down in this article to read about a person in France who invented a hornet trap

The ransom of globalisation. (emoticon: raised airbrows, or sthmg)

I saw a video of bees killing these hornets with the heat they coukld gather when swarming around them.

Can we (you) build a sort of "hornet-fence" the way they do in Australia for rabbits, or eliminate all feral cats ?

We'll have to find ways to live in a global world. For good or worse...

Earlier this fall I overheard two garden center employees talking about these jumbo wasps one of them had seen somewhere. Their description sounded like northern giant hornet, I don't know what else it could have been. The two talking about the mystery insects were walking rapidly by on the way to doing something, I did not go chasing after them.

Next time I am in there I will have to ask for more information.

Not so "woke" here yet, we still call them "Frelons asiatiques" because that's what they are.
Far from being eradicated, they're spreading across France and Europe, destroying the local bees.

A CBC newscast about these hornets stated that they were last seen in BC in 2021 and are considered eradicated here as well.
