I was wondering if anyone else out there notices that Quince do not have the same wonderful fragrance of years ago...or at least I don't think so..there is a slight smell but it dissipates very quickly. We live in the Okanagan but I notice it with the Quince in Vancouver also?
haha...I knew that someone would say that ! :) and you are right to a point but... other people I know notice it also...the lack of scent in the Quince that is! :D
Are you talking about the tree or the fruit? With the fruit, they're being more and more often picked rather green for shipping, and in my experience green Quinces that have been gas-ripened don't have nearly the same smell as properly tree-ripe ones. With the trees, I have no clue.
But the other people are getting older, too ;-) Otherwise, have you had an unusually cool, wet summer this year? If yes, it's likely the quinces won't have ripened fully, as they need quite a lot of summer heat to mature.
I suspect it is the weather... we haven't had the long hot summers that we used to too bad...I really love that smell... :( thanks for your replies!
