I have two Teaxs Sable palms is my back yard and they where planted at the same time about 5 years ago. One is very heathy and doing well 'see photo'. About two years ago one of them started to have very weak fronds 'see photos'. They seem to start out fine, but they get so high and just fall over. Is the palm slowly dying or does any know what else may be wrong.

    Palm looking for help!!

    RT,

You'll need to clarify for me, as I seem to be looking at the same palm in the photos... What you may find is that one is getting better sun than the other, more or less water (either way can make a huge difference), or one may well just be infected. With the winds we've had around here lately, I've had several friends I've had to help upright a good number of palms lately, and that may well be a factor as well. These look to have grown very well for only being five years old.

Where are you at in the Woodlands? I work in Town Centre, across from the Cheesecake Factory, and beside the movie theatre. ;-)

Thanks for responding. The three photos with the small amount of fronds are the same palm. The issue is the fronds strart to grow out and than just bend over toward the trunk. These were transplanted trees 5 years ago they are diffentely more than 5 years old. I'm trying to figure out if it is just infected so I can just pull it out so it dosesn't infect any of the other palms. Any other thoughts would be helpful.

I live just off 242 and E. Windvale.

Hmm, may be an infection. This winter wasn't terribly bad, but it was cold enough in this area that it may have weakened the tree just enough that the rains affected it terribly. There's a Palm fellow over in Montgomery that may be able to help you out. Will see if I can't get his name and number for you. Barring that, I'd say try to fertilise and use a *systemic* insecticide/fungicide. Water, watch and wait... Remember that these are costa-palmate, so they can really crank over depending on the species... Looks like you may just have some weakness in the crown, in which case you'll need to baby it a fair bit.
