Peter Gregory in his Timber Press Pocket Guide to Japanese Maples
says 'Taiyo nishiki' is a sport of 'Asahi zuru' but "differs from its parent
in having yellow, not cream-white, variegation. ... New leaves emerge
with pink-flushed pale and deep yellow variegations on a green background,
becoming cream-colored to yellow on medium green for the summer."
