I have a dwarf tangerine tree.. Long spiked branchs have sprouted.. the tree has a good produce.. Anyone have an answer? Thanks RON
My guess is you're looking at rootstock growth. Is it coming from below the graft? Does it have foliage that looks different - perhaps trifoliate? If so, it is desirable in most cases to remove such growth since it is the cultivar that has the superior fruit qualities.
Actually, no - but I can see how 'cultivar' could be taken to refer to the rootstock. My original statement would have been clearer if it had read "since it is the cultivar and not the rootstock that has the superior fruit qualities." That or replace the word cultivar with scion.
