I feel like a real duh-mmy, but what type/variety/whatever of hydrangea is this that I planted in our garden quite a few years ago? Pic 1 - February, 2015. Still dozy from winter sleep. Probably 12 feet/ 4 metres tall. Pic 2 - September, 2006. Closer up. Full foliage and flowers. I don't think that it ever gets full sun in the summer (underneath a Paulownia). I'd like to prune it to get it more robust, but until I know what it is and how/when to prune it, I'm leaving it. Any input welcome.
Something of the H. aspera persuasion. There are several of this type, you may be able find the same exact one during flowering time at UBC or Van Dusen.
Thanks for your input, folks. I'm going with H. aspera for now because this shrub is a good ten feet tall, whereas the macrophylla maxes out at about seven feet, according to Wikipedia. While researching the two online, I discovered that there is also a H. aspera 'Macrophylla'. Hoo ha! Again, thanks.
