Hi - We purchased this plant and we love it. However, something is definitely wrong as the lower stem's leaves are "rotting." I've learned to water it pretty much when the soil dries and fertilized it once a month. We've already cut off two bulbs but not sure what else to do. Any tips on how we should manage it or whether we are doing anything wrong will be helpful. Thanks for reading!
Looks like Yucca elephantipes to me. Perhaps you are overwatering. Does that pot have drainage holes? Ed
Thanks for the feedback guys. We'll keep that in mind and make sure we don't water it as frequently. We thought that since one out of the three was dying that watering was not the issue. I suppose if we just let the soil completely dry, it will eventually regenerate leaves? Hopefully we won't kill it.
Yucca elephantipes. Not one of the best plants to grow indoors. To grow it well it needs more light than most people can provide. The plant should go dry between watering and should never stand in water. THre is nothing wrong about the oldest leaves dying off. That is normal for all plants. Once the leaves die, they never grow back and they will be replaced by new leaves from the crown. Stop fertilizing it. It only needs fertilizer once a year.
