I've been admiring the magical tw0-colour trees in the Guildford area for many years without knowing what they are. Recently I've learned from Wendy that they are sweet cherries, Prunus avium, taking over Kanzan. These Kanzan trees started to bloom in the past couple of days.

Very close to this, there is 'Shiro-fugen' with buds, but it's not blooming yet and I didn't take any photo.

More magical two-tone trees in the Guildford area.

153 St & 102A Ave, two trees next to a government building, across from Tap House.
One with still noticeable amount of Kanzan, and the other with the last bit of Kanzan barely hanging on.

This one is half hidden by 'Akebono' branches.
    20220420 156&102 - Taka 1.jpg

And here is a questionable two-tone tree.
152 St & 100 Ave, 7-Eleven is surrounded by a dozen of 'Shiro-fugen' trees which are starting to bloom.
I found one tree with two branches of Prunus avium as shown in the last photo. Does it still qualify as two-tones with both being shiro(white)??

Yes. I just included an 'Akebono' in the Magical two-tone trees | UBC Botanical Garden Forums thread, so this is right on theme, and I'm happy to have the 'Shiro-fugen' example. And these other 'Kanzan' too. But I have to go to sleep now, hope to update the thread tomorrow.

And this 'Ama-no-gawa' qualifies too, at 88 Avenue and 154A Street. These are almost all low-grafted - you can see how low the rootstock limb starts.

These photos are of the same tree from different angles. Some sweet cherry flowers managed to mix right in the middle of Kanzan flowers.

    Are these 'Sendai-shidare' or 'Snofozam?
I thought they were 'Sendai-shidare' because of the umbrella-like shape and the dense top, however, the branches are chopped off and not natural. (And I don't like it.) I can also see the hair on the pedicels. So, now I'm thinking they must be 'Snofozam'.

**Edited** These are 'Snofozam' as per Wendy's comment below.

I'm confused too. This seems too late for 'Snofozam' - in bloom at the same time as 'Rancho'. But the calyces look more like 'Snofozam', particularly in the first and third blossom photos. And if you saw hairs on the pedicels, go with 'Snofozam'.
Those too cultivars are next to each other in our book (which is organized by blooming time), and when I simplify my blooming date chart, they're going to have the same blooming dates. Nothing is following any rules this year anyway.

    Hi Wendy,

Ok, 'Snofozam', it is. The ones at VanDusen Gardens still had flowers two days ago, and the ones in Surrey definitely have hairs on the pedicels. I edited my posting above and replaced the photos with proper names.

Here are 'Snofozam' and 'Rancho' on the same day (this weekend) at VanDusen.

Nice-looking tree, doesn't appear to be top-grafted. I can't say the same for the tree to the left of it.

    Another non-grafted 'Akebono' [98 Ave & 153 St], with fresh injuries. :(
This one is very old and beautiful, however, some branches were chopped off recently.

In the middle courtyard, there are about 20 mature 'Akebono' trees. They are past peak, but the petals on the ground create a beautiful effect.

5-6 'Tai-haku' trees alongside the entrance driveway of the complex. They are actually in the backyard of the next-door property.
