[152 St & 100 Ave, parking lot of a shopping square]

One 'Shirotae' tree next to a 7-11 store. It has mysterious branches shooting up past the top from the mid-trunk. Are they prunus avium from the rootstock?



All other trees in this parking lot are 'Shiro-fugen' that are not blooming yet, so I didn't take photos.

The 'Shirotae' was probably supposed to be 'Shiro-fugen' as well.

 

In Fleetwood Park (80 Ave & 160 St, Map ID 15124), a few 'Akebono' are in full bloom.
All the blossoms are gone from Rancho at "Cherry Walk", but two sweet cherry trees at the end of the walk have flowers.



One block north of the park, I found this 'Beni-shidare' (or 'Yae-beni-shidare'), but I'll have to go back next year to get a better photo and place a marker on the map.

 

I wondered if those two trees started as 'Rancho', then looked more closely at the photo - it does look like the one in the photo still has 'Rancho' bits

I'd expect 'Beni-shidare', would expect the other to still have more recognizable flowers.

Bear Creek Park on April 25, 2023

'Akebono' by the playground and 4 young ones by the outdoor pool.


'Shirotae', also by the playground looks really nice.




From the playground area, go across the little wooden bridge into the garden area and turn right. At the end of the path, there is an area called "Winter Garden".
This is 'Korean Hill Cherry'.


And there is another cherry tree in the same area that I couldn't identify. All blossoms are too high to get clear photos, and they are old, but Wendy's guess is 'Autumnalus Rosea'.
I will have to go back next year to confirm.

 

I think you are right. Being a novice scout, I didn't pay attention to the rest of the tree while taking photos of the flowers, but here is the entire tree.


This photo from your last year's posting (#197) shows these smaller Rancho trees.

One 'Shirotae' in a row of 'Kanzan'. It might have been planted by mistake, but I'm glad it's there.

 

'Beni-shidare' in the front yard at 10245 159 Street.
I will have to catch it earlier when it's in full bloom.

 

No fooling. It looks trimmed, but not ridiculously so.

I even found a petaloid!! It seems to be rare this year; this is my second sighting.

There is a single (edited the cultivar name) 'Shiro-fugen' at the end of the street lined with 'Kanzan'.



It's at the far end of this street, kind of hidden.

I took these photos by holding my phone over the fence; I couldn't get close-up photos of the flowers.
I think these are 'Ama-no-gawa' based on the standing-up blossoms on stiff pedicels.

I'm cherishing the last bit of cherries this year...

 

The 'Accolade' at the NW corner of Fairlight Crescent and Clark Drive in North Delta still seems to be doing well. I was surprised to see root growth that is also 'Accolade'. It's not quite in full bloom yet. I said two years ago that it's three trees, but we only noticed one tree this time. [Edited March 18]My friend who lives nearby says there are three trees that are looking beautiful right now.

This lone beautiful 'Accolade' stands out on the street where there is no other flowering trees.

On the same street, by North Surrey Community Park[97A Ave& 157B St], the row of about 10 'Rancho' trees are not quite there yet.

The entire long L shaped cul-de-sac is lined by pretty old 'akebono' trees. This area would be really nice next week.



The top-left flower in the 3rd photo seems to have 6 petals. Perhaps the one to the right is a giant petaloid?
The flower below that clearly shows a petaloid.

 

I've seen a couple of 'Akebono' flowers with a full extra petal too. One year I saw some 'Whitcomb' flowers that did that. Sort of like a four-leaf clover or a lilac flower with one extra or one less petal. Some of the flowers don't read the book.

 

I feel lucky. :)
