There are two ‘Shirotae’ at the very end of Sechelt Inlet Rd at the Tuwanek Hotel and Spa. Blooming now, at the end of their peak.

The first one is in very fine condition.

The second one is hanging in there, with the help of Canada Post.

Another not so nice 'Shirotae'. This one kind of puny, although the rootstock looks like it's punching above it's weight.

Maybe it's an installation, pruned (for you, maybe) to mimic the snow on the mountains. :)
By rootstock, you mean just the thin bits almost directly in front of the trunk, right? All that twiggy stuff to the left looks like Euonymous alatus.

I actually meant to say that the trunk of the tree is much stronger than the flowering parts.

Gosh @Willard - you cover more of the coast than we do in 10 years! Mind you - usually I am going in another direction - you inspire staycation, that’s for sûre

Half mast Maple Leaf Cdn flag (in recognition of Prince Philip today) and cherry blossoms at local RCMP Gibsons

I don’t have pix but there are some really fluffy blossom trees at west side of London Drg along Sunnycrest Rd (nr RCMP)

And IGA Gibsons Park Plaza mall is looking pink and fluffy too.

It seems like yesterday it was cold and wet and ice - and it felt like one little bud on a limb was hope (well it still is of course!)

Early sunrise 630am Sunday pix from around town

There are so many blossoms right now, it’s hard not to drive distracted so I went out early in the peace of a small town Sunday morning

It’s hard to imagine that a few weeks ago was pitch dark and black ice — i would be out just after the salt truck (de-icing huge truck ie gov’t contractor)

@Willard will recognize the mall pix

Believe it or not - each collage captures a single tree fr various angles — the sunrise really warms colors up fr the east (obviously)

Collage 1 - with Mt Elphinstone and a palm tree! Yes there is someone in Gibsons area who has a forest of palm trees up on the mtnside - they are for sale so many yards (gardens) around town have at least one palm

Collage 2 — I always notice this tree when around town - it’s the one near the supermarket loading dock where the huge trucks back in. Again - sunrise colors

Collage 3 - the pair of pix - that is North Road near the huge water tanks - with Mount Wrottsley in far distance if you enlarge (huge white snow peak)

Single pic is around junction of North & Chamberlin Rds

So many blossoms - if i had more time I would have toured more sites — maybe tomorrow early bird time

ÉDIT - what I call collage 1 is really the 4th that shows up - i don’t understand how to post in correct order - anyway - it’s the palm tree one

At Gower Gardens (292 Gower Pt Rd) there is a handsome pair of ‘Kanzan’ about to commence peak bloom.

‘Shirotae’ at the Wine Garten on Gower Pt Rd in downtown Gibsons is almost past peak bloom, but still very fragrant.

Stay tuned, the adjacent ‘Shirofugen’ will be next to bloom.

Tues early evening moonrise to the east with cherry blossoms (near the ferry terminal)

Kwanzan? (Spell) - an elderly one that keeps on keeping on

Can you see the half moon?

Had to make a quick trip to Wilson Creek stoplight - and I noticed this dual white pink blossom single tree on the side entrance to GM dealer (first two obviously commercial ornamentals)
    ——
On the trip there are so many fabulous wild cherries which are my favs having grown up around them

I like how statuesque tall they are plus no crazy Gibsons Haircuts - just good old nature at its best

I would estimate these wild ones with their distinct horizontal tree bark are at least 60 to 70 feet tall

They grow fast and die back like alder trees at young age — the birds like the fruit if there is any mature production

Rather unusual ‘Ama-no-gawa’ on O’Shea, east of Shaw Rd.

I met the owner who says her late husband trained the tree to grow that way, and she would have preferred the umbrella shape.

    I could not possibly comment.

Only in Gibsons will you see a tree like this. At the north parking lot of Sunnycrest Mall.

    Teutonic precision on that pruning.

    @Acerholic
I hope you do send something fr UK - I think you can enter two at same time, online, once during festival

@wcutler - do we send our inspiration photo w the haiku? I ask because the visual context helps - in my amateur opinion. Just curious. Thank you!
