‘Accolade’ on Pilling Rd, down from Gower Pt Rd is starting to bloom. Owner says the tree is about 40 years old , and when it’s quiet he can hear all the bees buzzing in the tree.

The ‘Colt’ suckers on the ‘Ama-no-gawa’ at St. John’s United Church in Davis Bay got the memo from Wendy.

Wendy spotted these ‘Colt’ last year - I would have overlooked them. But they are VERY fragrant today, even 10 metres away.

Early days for the three ‘Akebono’ at the Sechelt Courthouse, but one branch is trying to enter the building.

Drove by this ‘Whitcomb’ in Sechelt on a detour via Marine Way and Heron Place today.
    Pretty good-looking tree.

I have changed to blooming dates for 'Whitcomb' on the festival map to show them blooming on the Sunshine Coast for another week. Until someone shows me a good-looking 'Whitcomb' elsewhere, I am showing that cultivar as finished everywhere else, as there is no point sending anyone to see the ones I've seen.

I don't know how Sunshine Coast is leading the parade this year. That 'Akebono' is right in line with the trees in Downtown Vancouver. Maybe the 'Whitcomb' are late, though, which is why they look so good. But I checked out a colder neighbourhood in Vancouver today - festival favourite 'Whitcomb' trees look terrible.

    Fluffy 'Accolade' four posts up!

Edgar the Eagle was there too (look way up)

EDIT - to add - this photo was yesterday Tues March 12/24 around 11:30am PDT

I would have to look up old pix (2023) to make comparison of bloom progress

‘Pandora’ on Harmony Lane survived the cold snap in January. Will take a while before it’s visible from two blocks away, though.

One of our cherry tree friends at Super Valu truck unloading bay March 16/24 afternoon on an unusually warm day approx 16 / 61F

how it doesn’t get taken out by « snow plow-in-a-rush » contractor, i don’t know

I’d estimate this tree and those nearby to be 20 yr old

thankfully no « Gibsons haircut »

@Willard - what is name of this tree?

There are several ‘Akebono’ in the Super Valu parking lot. I’m looking forward to seeing them flower.

Four ‘Little Twist’ at the Langdale Ferry Terminal are happily blooming away. The branches really are twisted.

One of the quartet has sprouted an offset. Doesn’t look like a sucker, but may be growing from the roots.

Also in the same block, there is a more mature ‘Whitcomb’ at peak bloom. It is planted on private property, but visible from Franklin Street.

The one and only ‘Pandora’ I know of on the Sunshine Coast. Spotted by my neighbour Joy last year on Harmony Lane in Gibsons.

    This one is classic

I hope they (nice people) appreciate it in terms of understanding the treasure they have — I am sure they do

Please use the map. I know it's hard on a phone, and you'll have to bookmark the link, and it's hard to get to the half that is the map, but you can get all the locations listed.
    Go to Neighbourhood Maps (vcbf.ca)
Click the Search tab on the left.
    Under Cultivars, select Pandora.
    Click the Search button.
You can by any of the column headings by tapping on them.

Can you get to the map side at all (it should be to the right of the Search area)? If you can, you can do a query on neighbourhood to see the locations and names of everything posted in a particular neighbourhood. When I hold my phone in landscape position, I can see the map on the right.

It’s tax time and I ended up at my accountant’s backyard again, checking out his ‘Colt’. See postings #434 and #435 from last year.

The blossoms are deliciously fragrant, and I am becoming a fan of this cultivar.

    20240321 KingJudith Colt Willard IMG_8572 2.JPG 20240321 KingJudith Colt Willard IMG_8579 2.jpg 20240321 KingJudith Colt Willard IMG_8583 2.JPG 20240321 KingJudith Colt Willard IMG_8582 2.jpg 20240321 KingJudith Willard IMG_8587 2.JPG

Tree is blooming at least 2-3 weeks earlier than last year.
