The other trees are 'Kanzan', and they are late bloomers.

Before the Environment Canada « special weather » alert, I made the most of dry skies to look at the three pretty trees at Starbucks in Gibsons Park Plaza, 1100 Sunshine Coast Highway 101

who else offers a cherry blossom drive by tour (ok, I had walked a couple of miles before this coffee break :)

NB - I have added a previous photo to show what the tree closest to main entry door (green umbrellas) looked like just 6 days ago (last Saturday)

An attractive Accolade? I have not noticed before today — I think because unfortunately some conifer trees were removed a few months ago — ok, some time in the past couple of years’ blurr

anyway this nice tree keeps company with a flowering plum and is along Marine Dr in Hopkins Landing

The pair of ‘Akebono’ at Sunnycrest Mall at Highwsy 101 and O’Shea. Teutonic precision.

Egan Davis talked on his walk today about what a beautiful natural shape 'Akebono' have and what a shame it is that people get this thing about controlling nature, and pruning because they can.

Spring cherry awaiting full blossom at corner of Veterans Road (transit route) and Carole Place in West Gibsons

I estimate this tree was planted around 6 yrs ago.

i am interested in more than just the full picture postcard (Instagram these days:) trees because I like the blooming process and also I read this article linked below

citizen science with positive experiences (birds buds and blossoms)

Citizen scientists predict cherry blossom peak

This is one for @Willard - because it resembles the Snowzafoam I think Willard said is a favorite on their list locally (out on Roberts Crk nr the school)

I hope it’s a cherry — I don’t want to get too close to someone else’s private property

Agreed, the one in The Creek neighborhood has a nice natural shape whereas the one I photographed here a couple of days ago has the “reverse Gibsons Haircut” around its “hemline”

St Andrews Road above Hopkins Landing water tanks

look at this tree’s view (the Britannia Range of mtn including “The Lions” peaks)

Well let’s say “observation of that “look””

Another couple of lovely trees in the subdivision above Hopkins Landing wharf - and BC Ferries Langdale terminal (no the Sunshine Coast is not an island). I think in detail mode, that’s the Queen of Coquitlam ferry.

i am thinking that the trees x 2 are Akebono (I took a note, and these 2 are same bloom time as local Starbucks and local medical Center (both 1100 SC Hwy in Gibsons))

view is east across Howe Sound (ocean) toward Britannia Range incl The Lions and Cypress Bowl ski area

This location is very close to the ocean & elevation above sea level is around 400 feet on a steep slope with sun all day (when it’s sunny). I estimate this subdivision was installed around 20 yrs ago.

@Willard there are several trees yet to bloom approx a block away on St Andrews

stella maris place where it meets St Andrews Rd = road name, above Hopkins water tanks on North Rd (a transit route w some walking)

The pruning is even worse than last year on this Yae-Beni-Shidare at the Gibsons Legion on School Road. Nice healthy tree, though.

Mullet is still there, Georgia Strait.

We can't all have the same tastes in shapes, the main thing is that the residents are growing Cherry trees. But I see your point.......

A little walk around Sunnycrest Mall (London Drg and the domed Akebonos posted by @Willard

headed south on Shaw Rd past trees Willard has already posted — west on Inglis over a new foot bridge (past a huge old pear in bloom plus some enormous vintage logging equipment … an old skidder & a D8 Cat (not every blossom tour has such features))

up Mahan trail and just before Credit union turn East and come out at Christensen Village care campus — you’re almost back on Shaw Rd

There is a busy duck pond with mallards and red wing blackbirds and CV residents enjoying blossoms and wildlife

i tried to get blossom reflection in pond

i like the little allée of Akebono

The hot pink is wild currant one of CV residents pointed out to me

back at Sunnycrest Mall, one of the trees that has so far escaped THE haircut

we laughed at our word-play calling tree an « akemodo » with share car parked there. I guess you had to be there, as the saying goes :)

Tucked away on the west side of London Dr*gs big box store at Sunnycrest Mall, 900 Gibsons Way, Gibsons BC

    yay! No haircuts

@Willard - are these two trees the same variety (name) —- the one closer to parking seemed pinker

I estimate that these trees are approx 25 yr old (planted when LD store was purpose built)

the dead looking vine on concrete building is - I think - Virginia creeper skeleton

for @Acerholic, i included some Japanese maples yet to leaf out (with rhodos)

You are correct again - 'Snofozam'. Thank you for scouting that. It's only the second 'Snofozam' I am aware of on the Sunshine Coast.
Although... Quality Farms and Nursery has 5 of them for sale. Quite tall and in bloom now.
