I have a small Star Magnolia growing in front of our house, and I have a few questions. I have noticed that some of them become almost more like bushes than small trees, and I would like to try to keep it pruned around the base. Is it appropriate to clip off the small shoots that are coming out of the low trunk of the tree? Also, we have a power line over the top of the Magnolia which I did not take into consideration when planting it. Do I just trim it up a bit after the bloom to keep it from getting too tall? Lastly, as proof of what a weird season it has been, we have a new bloom coming out on the tree at the end of August. Even the Lupins are blooming right now. What a year on the Oregon Coast. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice. Susan
