succulents and horse manure

  1. im asking if succulents, or cactuses if you will, actually like horse manure. if so how much should i put on

    I wouldn't put anything at all damp or apt to decompose into a moisture-retaining material around these. Usually you have to use a very excessively draining medium to keep them from rotting off, especially if growing in the open in climates with more then desert level amounts of precipitation. A blanket of horse manure sounds like the perfect thing to kill them, especially if still warm.

    On the other hand, they don't like to starve. Perhaps a small amount light sprinkled around them - well away from their crowns - would promote growth, if there is an infertility issue developing (as might be expected in a coarse, rapidly draining bed). To find out what the nutrient situation may be sample the soil where these are planted and have it analyzed by a soils lab.
