I received a cutting from this plant from a neighbor and he said to just stick into the soil and it will grow. Don't know what it is??? I have a photo here:
Re: Succulent Identification What a pretty plant! I don't know what it is but I'd be interested to find out!
Re: Succulent Identification Looks like Kalanchoe luciae. Common name Paddle plant. See..... http://images.google.com/images?q=k...eid=ie7&rlz=1I7SUNA&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi This site has good advice on the growing conditions it needs. (Kalanchoe thyrsiflora is the old name for it) See... http://www.superfloralretailing.com/august2008/foliageplant.html For good advise on how to propagate it from a leaf cutting. See.... http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Articles/Leaf_cuttings/index.html
Re: Succulent Identification Definitely Kalanchoe thyrsiflora or 'Flapjacks' more sun more = colour with this one.
Re: Succulent Identification Not another one!!!!!!!! When did this one happen? It's definitely still being sold as K. thyrsiflora here, this is becoming ridiculous:{ I can't see anyone catching onto that here in a hurry. I guess when you have 1,000's of printed tags they have to be used. You spend years learning this stuff and then someone decides that's got to change BOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay dummy spit over now. These like it very dry, and like I said lots of sun to achieve the bright red colour. I've done some leaf cuttings of these but reckon you're best off taking a fair sized stem cutting, let it dry and sit for a good week or more until you see roots forming at the base before planting. Just keep the cuttings dry.
Re: Succulent Identification Chungii.. this is where I read about the change from Kalanchoe thyrsiflora to K.luciae. See... http://www.smgrowers.com/info/kalanchoeluciae.asp
Re: Succulent Identification Thank you all for your help. I learned a a great deal about the Kalanchoe luciae.
Re: Succulent Identification Thanks Luddite I had literally just finished mentioning the pain of name changes on a cactus in another thread and next I know here I am with the same problem:} So after reading the link it wasn't really a name change it was more an incorrect naming. Like I said, because wholesale nurseries get 1000's of tags printed at a time, I guess we'll be waiting for them to all be sold before any changes happen here. This is the biggest problem and smaller nurseries that buy off them generally know little different or just ignore it. I wish they all had the attitude of the place in the link.
