I've learned that cactus wrinkle up when they are on there last reserves of water and to prevent water evaporation. And for the cactus owner this is usually the sign to water them. Now I think that succulent can't wrinkle up. So are there any other sings to look for? When they really need to be watered?

Some succulents will wrinkle - remember that cacti are part of the larger group of succulent plants.

Ah, but most succulents will exhibit the wrinkly-leaf thing when they're too dry. I water mine about once a week, less if I forget about them.

succulents (other than cacti) should be watered when the soil medium is completely dry. water thoroughly and then let the soil dry out completely before repeating.

when in need of water, leaves may wrinkle, shrivel, turn yellow, go mushy, fall off - any combination.
