About two years ago I received this pretty little plant as a gift. I thought it was a cactus but now I'm not so sure.

I keep it on my desk at the office and it seems to be doing ok under an incandescent light.

I water every few weeks, less often in the summer. The only problem it seems to have is some brown tips.

I'd like to know what it is and if I have been caring for it properly.

    Many thanks!

I think I found a related post that identifies this as a Gasterworthia. If correct, how do I care for it? Thanks!

Looks like a good job of identification. I never heard of these plants. Family is Asphodelaceae, and the ornamental plants are evidently hybrids of Gasteria and Haworthia, so the name would be x Gasterhaworthia (the x indicating hybrid origin).

I am personally of the opinion that the plant is a Haworthia attenuata, though I'm not an Asphodelaceae expert or anything. Care is the same whether it's a Haworthia or a Gasterworthia.

The lighter, more stretched new growth looks like the plant may not be getting enough light in its current location.
