Stumped

    I moved to a new home. I am stumped by this shrub in my yard. It has been blooming for a few weeks.

    Mahonia ( or Berberis ) of some type ?

    Yep, a Mahonia - one of the Asian species grown as garden shrubs, not BC's local native Mahonia aquifolium though.

    Mahonia looks like a winner. Maybe japonica?

    Could well be M. japonica, but there are several similar ones, and garden hybrids between them too.
