Stump Flipping

    from todays post:

    "Post-wildfire management in BC includes salvage logging, grass seeding and stump flipping. "

    What is srtump flipping?

    I am a forester in the california redwood region and I've never heard of this.

    I'd not heard of it either. My guess is yanking stumps out of the ground to create loose soil and hummocks for better germination conditions for regeneration.

    Googling without quotes this and the Botany Photo of the Day original comment come up, followed by irrelevant hits. Presumably it means pushing the stumps over.
