Hi! I am new here, and also pretty new to keeping plants of any kind. I recently acquired a plant from a friend who was moving out of the country, and although I think its very pretty, I have no idea what it is or how to care for it. My best guess has been that it is a succulent, and so I have not watered it yet in the two weeks I have had it. I noticed the stems with flowers were starting to grow toward the window (it was in the middle of a room for a while) so I moved it next to a window a few days ago. When I checked it again, I also noticed there were a lot of brown and some yellow leaves near the bottom, which broke off with very little help, so I cleared those out. Im not sure what I should be doing (if anything) to help this guy, so any tips would be very much appreciated!

The 'main' plant is about 10" across as seen here and there are smaller ones growing off of the same base. The flower stems are 15" high and growing toward the window in a creepy fashion, but the flowers themselves are very pretty.

It's an Echeveria, or possibly a Graptoveria (I'm terrible with the interspecific hybrids....) You're bang on about it being a succulent, and you're caring for it excellently if it's happy enough to bloom for you. You're also doing the right thing in removing the dried up leaves.

Succulents of this type are very easy to care for, and practically thrive on being neglected.

It looks like you're taking great care of it. The plant looks very happy.
