Re: What garden plant is this? Looks like either a Heliconia or a Strelizia. Has it ever bloomed for you?
Re: Strelizia reginae ??? Hi Valter, I always look out for your posts, and I often have a good idea about your plants. ...but this time I am not at all certain. My first instant reaction was Strelitzia reginae, but the leaves just do not look right. I went out and had a look at my own plant and the leaves are definitely a rather bluegreen and the tips of the leaves are boat shaped. Your plant also looks too tall for S reginae (I compared it with the park bench behind). Perhaps a different species of Strelitzia ?? (I think there are about 5)....but, I am inclining to a Heliconia....but I really do not know... Certainly much easier with a flower !! Boa Sorte Brian
Re: Strelizia reginae ??? Shade grown plants are frequently taller or have larger leaves and bloom much less. YMMV
Re: Strelizia reginae ??? Hi Valter and Saltcedar, I was just walking today through Lagos town and saw a young clump of Strelitzia nicolai which looks very like your plant. I had not really considered this species as I usually think of it (and see it) as much taller plants / trees. Unfortunately no camera to hand to take a photo so we could compare. So...I've gone off the idea of Heliconia and back to Strelitzia !! Boa Sorte Brian
Re: Strelizia reginae ??? It's really Strelitzia reginae! http://cultura.cm-tavira.pt/index.php?pagina=68&skip=true I took pictures in this garden: JARDIM DO CORETO > Tavira
valterj, Look up Strelitzia nicolai aka "giant white". That's a posibility but check all 5 varieties Had nicolai once but it never bloomed before it litterally out grew the house. Waaaay to tall. Did see them at L. A. Ex airport in bloom once. Leaves are softer, flat and not the blueish, boat shape of the reginae, almost like two different plants. There are many helaconia's and I know zilch about them. barb
