This "mushroom" is about 10 cm tall, about 0.5 cm across the head. It appears to have a spore pod on the top surrounded by petals. It almost looks like a moss, except that it is mostly white with black edges on the petals. The plant was found about 50 km North of Hunstiville Ontario on a forest floor White Pine Maples, Birches. Serveral plants were found in the same area. The leave-like "fins" up the stem are unusual. The plant was growing in filtered light so the lack of green (photosynthesis) is not from lack of light.

It was something discovered by my 11 year old son August 16th 2009. If anyone has some thoughts of what its is or who to ask, please share.
