I found a strange succulent in a garden in Benoni South Africa. Never seen it before and it was over 6 ft high. What is this? It is the "curly " one at the front of the pic thanks Barbara
Welcome Barbararsa. Cannot be sure. Possibly Myrtillocactus geometrizans forma cristata. Common name Dinosaur Back Plant. http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/MY...tata/Myrtillacactus geometrizans cristata.htm There are several good pics on the above site. Quote "Culture: The crests are frequently grafted onto a normal a Myrtillocactus trunk but are easily grown on their own roots. Any normal shoots should be removed to promote the growth of the crest" http://www.piantegrassevillani.it/images/foto/crestate/IMG_0043.gif
Hi Silver surfer Many thanks for your rapid reply, much appreciated. Yes indeed that is it! I hadnt seen it before in South Africa let alone a speciman of such an enormous size. I hope the house owners appreciate it. regards Barbara
