This is the strangest plant ive ever seen. Looks like a rose except the flower. Found in higher elevation. Some were five feet tall. The flower feels like hair and is red and yellow. They look like a ball of tiny roots. The leaves are a little smaller than a dime. Help please????????????
Hello Irate1 You have a parasitic wasp infestation on the rose. if you cut open the ball of fur then inside you should see chambers with small maggots or larve in them. The best thing to do is just cut these off if you do not like them. In most cases it is harmless to the plant. the plant is trying to grow away from the infestation and so grows a gall or tumour to try to seclude the infestation away from its body. much like cancer cells are often located in a tumourous area in a body. essentially harmless to the plant just unfortunate if you are looking for flowers.
UNBELIEVABLE....I've been growing roses for, probably 30-35 years and never saw or heard of such a thing. You're never too old to learn something new.
