I have seen two full-size trees in my area with 3" fruit hanging from the ends of long branches. The fruit is slightly pear-shaped. I cut one in half. There is a 1/4 inch cover around a large pit. Inside the pit it is pale green with large white seeds. The sap is very sticky and dried like glue on my jeans. Attached is a photo. Does anyone know what this is?

Look on the net for "Japanese quince" (Chaenomeles japonica).

I appreciate your quick reply. Unfortunately, the Chaenomeles japonic turns out to be a shrub I know well. I love the bright red blossoms in early spring. However, the plant I'm curious about is a large fruit tree. The fruit is about 3 - 4 inches long. I'll add that to my original post. Thanks, again.

Sapindus? Or at least perhaps something in the family Sapindaceae.
