Strange blackberry species found in Richmond - need help with ID!

    I was picking blackberries yesterday and realized at one point I was also picking from a species I've never seen before. The berries looked the same as himalayan, though were more uniform, firm and "perfect" looking. The leaves though were jagged and pointy (pictured below). Can someone please help ID and also let me know if they're also safe to eat! I would like to make pie today :)

    I might have the answer! Could it be Rubus laciniatus?

    That looks like a leaflet of Rubus laciniatus, Cutleaf Evergreen Blackberry.

    Yes, they're edible. Or, as this Virginia Tech fact sheet says, "very edible".
