Saw this at Ptarmigan cirque, Kananaski, AB today - I have only seen yellow stonecrop before is this different?
@hiking Pat good morning and thank you for posting a wonderful and uplifting plant. Against the rocks it is perfect. I believe there is a Desert red variety, so this could well be what you have seen.
That's a beauty. Not Sedum (the true stonecrops) but rather https://nargs.org/forum/rhodiola-integrifolia / Rhodiola integrifolia in Flora of North America @ efloras.org (also known as western roseroot or king's crown). I've never seen them with their foliage coloured for autumn.
