    I should first say that I am not the photographer here. I believe that this may be Filago pyramidita, but it's not one that I've seen before. All comments welcome!

    No, not Filago, surely an Apiaceae, (similar to Daucus carota)

    Many thanks Lila (again!). I can now see that you are quite right and I'm relieved to have been put on the right path. We found some D. muricatus on a similar excursion.
