My Japanese Stewertia is in stress. 12 years old, well taken care of, but has strange swollen stems, swollen lenticles, and decline of vigour. I have not seen this in a Stewertia before, and need to know how to take care of this 'perfect' small tree. Any pathologists out there that can help. I have attached photos of the stem problems.
