HI! If someone could help me out, we have 2 of these plants ( Japanese Stewartia) in our yard. Unfornately one had to be moved from too wet of a spot before we bought the house. I would like to put it back exactly where it was. Can I dig a hole where the plant was (would go) and add drain rock or sand or ?? to help keep the roots a bit drier?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

Depending on the situation, planting in a raised bed or mound would be a good way to improve the drainage. Amending the planting hole with more freely draining material than the surrounding soil usually creates problems rather than solves them.

if your soli is with many clay is a good idea sand ,and small pine bark;but if your soil is" ligth" like forest sand and pine bark is not a good idea, because fast dreinage is good only for clay soil..i have S. rostrata and clay soil in the hole i put sand grey(river sand)organic fertilize by cow ,is good by horse too...
