Sternbergia

    Yesterday we found in Alpine garden this looking so springly Autumn crocus, its label says it is Sternbergia sicula, not very often seen flower in our gardens, it has other common names Autumn daffodil, Fall daffodil, Winter daffodil.

    I found in my collection some pictures of Sternbergia lutea. Wikipedia says that Sternbergia sicula is synonym for Sternbergia lutea. Everybody can see a difference in width of leaves.

    Common name Autumn crocus is commonly used for Colchicum autumnale, see: Autumn crocus - Google Search

    You are right, it looks more like crocus not daffodil. Many different plants have the same common name, they don't look the same and often belong to different families.
